Announcement of the 30th Okinawa Crafts Fureai Plaza “Okinawa Crafts Exhibition”
This is an information about the ``Okinawa Crafts Exhibition'' held every year at Jiji Press Hall in Ginza.
date and time: Friday, September 22, 2023 - Sunday, September 24, 2023 10:00-18:00, until 17:00 on the last day
venue: Jiji Press Hall, Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
Sponsored by: Okinawa Crafts Fureai Plaza Executive Committee
site:https://okinawakougei.studio.site/
The main focus is on dyeing and weaving, but Okinawan crafts such as sanshin, Tsuboya ware, and Ryukyu lacquerware are also on display. Okinawan dyeing and weaving has unique characteristics that are unique anywhere in the world. Various different types of textiles such as bashofu, warp kasuri, weft kasuri, bingata, floating weaving (hanori) continue to survive on the small islands. I think it is rare in the world to have so many different types of textiles in such a small area, and it shows how much effort the Ryukyu Dynasty put into protection and development.
In particular, this exhibition will display textiles made using the best current technology. I think this is a good opportunity to learn about the wonders of Okinawan dyeing and weaving.
